Do I need council approval in Queensland?
Many granny flats can be approved as 'accepted development' — meeting the relevant codes without a full Development Application. This depends on your lot and local council's planning scheme.
Can I rent my granny flat to anyone in Queensland?
Yes — since September 2022, Queensland allows secondary dwellings to be rented to any tenant, not just family members. This opened up the rental yield opportunity significantly.
